Technical Textile

These textile materials are meant for serving same technical or utility functions and not for normal textile uses like apparel, home furnishing etc.

Tex

This is the universal unit for yarn count; it is the weight in grams per kilometer of yarn.

Tenacity

It is the expression of strength of fibre or yarn in terms of the ratio of breaking load and linear density; and of febric in terms of the ratio of breaking load and febric width.

Tensile Modules

It is the ratio of maximum stress within elastic limit in case of a tensile deformation.

Tensile Strength

The maximum stress developed in a tensile test and hence. It is the resistance of a material while pulled apart longitudinally.

Thermoplastic Composite

It is the moulding incorporating synthetic polymer fibres or resins as binders/matrices, which can be modified by the application of heat. The most common polumers used are polypropylene, followed by polyamide and polyester.

Thermoset Composite

It is the natural fibre reinforcement impregnated by cross-linking resin to produce semi-permanent mouldings i.e. an irreversible process. The principal resins used are non-saturated polyester, followed by epoxy, vinyl and phenolic.

Transmittivity

The product of water permeability along the geotextile plane and thickness of the geotextile.

Twill Weave

A weave that produces diagonal lines on the surface of the cloth.

Twine

A plied yarn formed by twisting together two or more strands of yarn.

Warp or End

Set of yarns running length-wise of a fabric is called warps or ends.

Warping

The process of preparing of warps for weaving or knitting . A number of methods are employed such as beam warping, chain warping and sectional warping.

Weave

The type of interlacement of warp and weft to form a fabric.

Weft or Pick

Set or yarns running width-wise of a fabric are called wefts or picks.

Work of Rupture

It is the energy required to bring jute fibre or yarn to rupture under tensile deformation.

Yarn Package

A length of yarn in a form suitable for handling, sorting or shipping . Packages may be unsupported as skeins or cakes, or prepared with various winding patterns of bobbins, cops, pirrs, spools, tubes or beams.
