Jute Raw Material Bank Scheme aims at setting up yarn and raw material sale outlets at distant locations around the country through
collaboration with bona fide bodies to make available jute fibre, fabric and yarn in small quantities as required by the micro enterprises, craftpersons and artisans. For the 10th
Plan Period, it has been planned to operate 32 Jute Raw Material Banks out of which 5 JRMBs will be set up in NER & Sikkim. Total financial outlay for the plan period as decided by the Government is Rs.474 lakhs. Out of these although the target was filled up, some had to be cancelled due to poor performance. As such during the current year it is proposed that seven such banks will be opened out of which three will be opened in the north-eastern states. It is also expected that the activities of JSCs will be so activated so as to enhance the consumption of jute yarn and fabric through the JRMBs (which is a part of the whole yarn source) by 3,00,000 lakh kgs of yarn and 3.00 lakh metres respectively. Additionally, NCJD will stress on extension activities of JRMBs considering the success during the recent months. In order to augment the sourcing and supply chain of raw materials, tie up with some RMB and jute mills will be made to assure supply to any concern of the country without fail and within reasonable time of placing the indent.
