National Centre for Jute Diversification is an Autonomous Body that functions under the administrative control of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. This Centre is engaged in the promotion of jute diversified technologies through capacity building and assisting entrepreneurs & NGOs in setting up jute diversified production units in different parts of the country. This Centre started operation in 1995 and has since played an important role in commercialisation of technologies

of jute diversification activities through the decentralised sector would also assist in the socio-economic development of the country. Also, the growth of jute diversification would open newer market for jute diversified products as well as for the growers who in due course would be better placed to fetch remunerative price for their yield.

In tune with its mandate, the Centre seeks to provide financial and non-financial support that are necessitated in assisting

The National Jute Programme of the Government of India, Ministry of Textiles and the UNDP envisaged commercialisation of the technologies developed by the various research institutions of the country on jute diversification.

This was felt essential for providing a newer dimension to the application of jute. It was further contemplated that spread

of market and consumer aware- ness for jute diversified products. Towards this end NCJD creates the platform for awareness generation, capacity building, human resource enhancement and impels creativity for product development in the field of Jute Diversification.

 Main Objectives

To provide and create necessary infrastructural facilities and conditions conductive to the development of Jute, Jute Products and Diversified Jute Products by way of assisting, craftsmen, designers, manufactures, exports, governmental and non-governmental agencies in the following manner inter–alta:

» Transfer of technology from R&D institutions and other organisations in India or aboard.

» Providing support services to the entrepreneurs for implementation of  their project including technical guidance and training.

» Organising  entrepreneurial development programme.

» Planning  and executing  market promotion  strategies including exhibitions, demonstrations and media campaigns in India or aboard.

» Conducting quality orientation programmes and seminars.

» Providing financial assistance by way of  subsidy or seed capital.

» Providing a forum to the people engaged or interested in Jute Industry for interacting with various national and international agencies, engaged in Jute and Textile R&D and producers / manufacturers of Jute and Textiles.

» In any other manner deemed desirable by the Council in its discretion.

To study, investigate, explore and ascertain the technical and commercial feasibility of profitability utilising the research work carried on by other bodies or  individuals engaged in Jute Development and Research or the Centre itself with a view to giving a fillip to the Jute Industry in India by means of  amongst other things, developing prototypes, setting up pilot projects, and conducting market study and surveys in the domestic and international markets.


To undertake, promote, facilitate, aid, foster and co-ordinate scientific technological, industrial and economic research into the matters relating to materials, equipment, machinery, components and applications, methods of production, product development including designing and development of new materials, equipments and processes in the Jute Industry with an eye on development of diversified Jute products.
To work as focal point for the various Jute and Textile Research and Development bodies, the organised and decentralised sectors of the Jute Industry.
To organise workshops conferences, lectures, seminars, refreshers courses and set up study groups and conduct training programmes for the purpose of promotion and development of Jute and Jute products.
To undertake such other activities as are relatable to any of the above objects.

 Ancillary  Objectives  With a view to promotion the foregoing objects, the Society shall have the following ancillary and incidental objects

To acquire by way of lease, sublease, gift, purchase, exchange, hire or in any other  manner, any movable or immovable properties and any rights or privileges necessary or convenient for the purposes of the society and to construct, erect, alter, improve and maintain any building and to construct, improve, alter, demolish or repair buildings and to manage, develop, sell, let, dispose off, mortgage, or otherwise deal with all or any part of the assets and rights of the society with a view to achieve the objects of the society, provided that the prior approval of the Central Government shall be obtained for the acquisition and sale of immovable property anywhere in India or aboard.


To accept grants of money, equipment, land and buildings, donations, gifts, subscriptions and other assistance from the Central Government or from any other source approved by the Central Government and to conform to the conditions on which such grants, other payments and assistance may be received, provided that no benefaction shall be accepted by the Society, which  in its opinion involves conditions or obligations contrary to the objects of the Society.
T o undertake and accept the management of any endowment or trust or donations in furtherance of the objects of the society.
To establish, equip and maintain laboratories, research centers, data  bank libraries, museums, workshops, institutes, organisations and such other facilities as are necessary for carrying out the objects of the society.
To establish, maintain control and manage branches or zonal or regional centers  of the Society anywhere in India or abroad.
To utilise and exploit the result of scientific and industrial research and to get patent rights in respect of discoveries, inventions, improvements and processes developed by the Society. To levy fees or other charges for training and / or other services / facilities provided by the Society at such nominal or other rates as specified by the Council.
T o institute and award medals, fellowships, awards certificates and other distinctions in accordance with the Rules and Regulations and by laws, with a view to promote the development of Jute and Diversified Jute Products.
T o prepare, print, publish, issue, acquire and circularise books, papers, periodicals, exhibits, films, slides, video tapes, gazetteers, circulars, and engage in other literary undertakings dealing with or having a bearing on the subject of Jute Diversification and allied fields.
To assist, guide or collaborate with other organisations or institutions in India  or in any part of the world having objects wholly or partially similar to those of the Society, in such manner as may be conducive to the attainment of the objects of the Society. However in respect of agreements involving foreign collaboration, prior approval of the Central Government shall be obtained.
To create partronships, affiliation and other classes of professional or honorary or technical membership or office as the Council may consider necessary.
T o establish, promote, co-operate, appoint agents or delegates to control, manage, superintend or otherwise assist the research work of any association and institution and other bodies engaged in any of the fields for which this Society is established.
To negotiate contracts on behalf of the society and rescind such contracts if required.
To do such all other lawful things as may be necessary, incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above objects.
